Jumble For Joy

Not everyone at the jumble sale is an evil witch prepared to fight to the death if you both happen to spot something good at the same time. One of the regulars, Tracey, found this 1960s wool cape at a jumble she was at last week and grabbed it knowing it was just my kind of thing. What a darling!

Even if I'd found nothing else at yesterday's jumble sale, it made the effort of leaving the house for the first time in nearly a week totally worth it.

No need to worry, it wasn't the only thing I came back with. This 1960s vinyl and tapestry holdall from a posh Wolverhampton shop that closed down in the mid-Seventies was another gem of a find.

What else? A Victorian hand-painted china soup ladle, a 1960s psychedelic toilet bag, a trio of kitsch 1950s ducks, some groovy 1970s spice measures, a retro velvet cushion (we've already got a mustard set of these in Gilbert) and a portable Olivetti typewriter in a turquoise carry case.

Donegal tweed jacket, 1970s cord blazer and a St Michael linen blazer for my next vintage fair,  1960s Bukta bri-nylon leotard and two hand-rolled scarves, a hand-made patchwork pinny, a hippy-tastic crochet shawl and an English-made waxed jacket.

A stack of travel guides for inspiration

And some insanely bright 1960s daisy print curtains, one of which I cut up and remade into this:

A 1970s style playsuit, using one of the patterns Tamera sent me.
I'm linking my creation with Patti's Visible Monday.

I must be getting better, last week it took me all day to replace the zip in a dress, this took the best part of this afternoon.

Crazy playsuit worn with new-to-me old skool leotard & tapestry holdall, 1970s platform boots, lime green opaques, and a stack of Indian silver & second-hand junk jewellery
Hope you've had a fantastic weekend.

We may have had a quiet one but there's lots to look forward to this week - helping out at the monthly jumble sale, Walsall's first night market, meeting up with some blogger pals, getting back into my exercise routine and BOOZE!!!

See you soon!

There are a serious lack of jumble sales in Bolton! I'm forever checking online and in newspapers and there are none! You got some great things, & that amazing playsuit! xo.

A night market? How interesting. Of all your excellent loot, it's the patchwork apron that most catches my eye. And the sewing project just turned out great.

Fab playsuit! And I love the retro cushion - my mum made lots of those in orange in the early '70s. Wish they were still around.

So nice to see you out and about again! How you manage to take a curtain and turn it into a sunny little bit of sassiness is so beyond me. You are workin' the Vix mojo in that divine little playsuit. I love the cape - so nice that Tracey snagged it for you. Kinda renews your faith in humanity ;)

Love the velvet cushion and the ducks!
If you're my partner in Lakotas swap (See what I did there? Didn't mention the C word!) you might just be getting a box full of bad cats! Thanks for the offer!

What lovely finds! The playsuit looks great, I wish I could sew, argh! I need to teach myself. Sometimes I wish I could quit my boring job and learn a load of new things and just do them.

You are a sylvan nymph in that fantastic cape, and then you reveal your incredible hand-made jumpsuit. In fact, most women I have met in thrift stores are extraordinarily friendly, I usually only see that kind of quarrelling in a retail department store. Congratulations on your trip out. I'm glad you're recovering!

Glad to hear you are feeling better! That playsuit is lovely, especially with the green tights.

Jealous (as per) of your jumble sale finds. The cape is utter fabulousness and the curtains look so much better on you. xx

pao said...

Yes, I agree, curtains do make the best clothes! Your jump suit is the bee's knees, Vix - your belong in the garden with all that fresh green about you. And you certainly look well again. hmmm, I think I may have some things you'd like...my long dangling earrings from the 60s and maybe some of my sewing patterns from the same era. I even have a pattern for making bean bag chairs!

That play suit is so adorable on you! have you gotten thinner Vix? I love your bag too!

What a fab cape, and so nice that the lady at the jumble thought of you. I do love a tapestry bag too, I keep looking out for them but not really liking the ones that cross my path. I hope you are feeling better, you are certainly looking better. Have a great week. x

Illness certainly doesn't stunt your jumble sale success. Without fail I also like what you get. I'm particular partial to those spice spoons and your fabolous play suit you whipped up.

Been gone a week and just catching up on what you've been up to, Vix.

I can't believe all you've done this past week in your weakened state: shopping, selling, sewing, modeling (WOW!), blogging and more with no drop in the gorgeous factor or your sense of humor. I think you should be called the "Atomic Vixen"!

Friday's outfit post was da bomb and the romper made from the curtain was sheer Vix genius once again.

So glad to hear that you are nearly well. :) Take care, dear. xxx

Glad to hear you're feeling much better! I love the playsuit you made - vintage curtains have the best fabric (curtains now are so boring). Also so sweet of a jumble sale friend to put that cape aside for you.

Let's play! Vix's curtain couture is always a joy to behold, and your new creation is no exception. What a fabulous print and such a cute little playsuit.
As always, your jumble sale finds are enviable (much better than mine!) How kind of Tracey to spot that great cape and think of you, it's lovely. I am always on the lookout for a vinyl and tapestry bag - one day I'll find one. One day!
You do sound much better, it's nice to up and about again, isn't it? And a fun week coming up too - hurray! xxxxxx

Dearest Vix,
I'm glad to hear that you are speeding down the highway to health.
I love that 70s playsuit, the print, the colours are AMAZING and you've done a grand old job with it.
Gawd woman, you should be knocking these out to sell at Glasto next year, the festi chicks would go mad for these I'm sure.
Seriously though you should offer up some of your fabulous creations somewhere. Vix-made hotpants, playsuits, dresses and tops...curtain couture, you've got a collection going already!
You look smashing :)
Lot's of love,

I'm so happy you made it out and are feeling better, YAY! I'm positively drooling over those measuring spoons they are so seventies-a-licious! Look into the Olivetti typewriter, I think they are now quite collectible and will fetch a nice price. (Personally I don't think I could have one after working in special accounts for the asshats for a year! Although I will admit they are a sexy little number!) Keep getting stronger! XXX
PS made your recipe again last night it disappears like magic!

Fabulous finds Vix especially the cape and lovely typewriter. I think my aertex PE shirt was a Bukta, blimey that takes me back. Your curtains look so much better as a playsuit, you did a fantastic job and I love the cheerful 70's print. You just could not be miserable wearing an outfit like that.

lucy joy said...

Great to read an ultra positive post from you (of course, you're always positive). That playsuit is genius, such a fun.print - why don't we see such designs now? Tapestry is all the rage if you believe what the fashion journos are saying, doesn't it make you feel smug when you see something priced at what you'd spend on a holiday and you've got an original you paid pennies for?

Those spoons look very modern, Joseph Joseph have been making a fortune with similar designs haven't they?

You've got a brilliant week lined up, there will be treasure galore waiting for you.

I like the way you positioned the ducks so they look huddled together and frightened!!
You look fan in your cape - perfect for the cold weather you're dreading. The playsuit is great, what an amazing fabric! Everything you bought at the jumble was great, the playsuit did give me visions of you leaping round the house doing some experimental dance piece though.

I'm glad to see that you've bounced back with a vengeance. That's quite a haul from the jumble sale. It was so sweet of your friend to score that cape for you. I guess it 'takes a village' to shop when it comes to being in the right place at the right time. An afternoon for that playsuit? Again, I'm in awe of your speedy sewing skills.

Reading along, humming to myself thinking oh, glad to see she's better, lalala - SPROING! That's the sound of my mind being blown by the typewriter. Afraid I had to limp through the rest as that dreamy Olivette kept calling me back for a looksy. Love the print and what you did with it, too. But I will be thinking of the typewriter all day.
